Sierra totonaca, Veracruz, Septiembre 2012.

September 2012, Totonac Highlands, Veracruz.
This moment was one of my favorites during one of my favorite trips. It was a traditional celebration of this region within the Totonac Highlands due to the harvest fest. There are many songs and ritual dances such as this of the image- and it really embarrasses me a lot to ignore or forget their meaning over time
Although, I remember that this kind of celebration was mainly because of the corn crop, as in most Mexican towns, but it is important to highlight the production of the wide variety of organic products offered by this place such as pepper, orange, and, of course, coffee; few people know this but it's one the best coffee beans that are produced in Mexico, this is the coffee served at the Café de Tacuba in Mexico City.
Anyway, I felt very fortunate and proud to see this ritual so closely; for them it was all so normal, but for me it was like seeing an explosion of colors, smells (incienzo, copal, mole, fruit, etc.) and sounds (the drum and the typical flute of northern Veracruz) all at the same time and in the same place, in a language I barely knew. Then I started taking pictures from the best angles according to my opinion, and the truth is that somehow I managed good pictures in general, but it certainly is one of my favorites. Clearly, before starting I had to ask for permission because for many of them is considered a forbidden thing, yes, a photograph can "steal their soul", and I have very clear that you must always act with respect, I wasn't there to change the rules, I was only an apprentice, observer, so I decided that "when in Rome, do as the Romans do", that is the only way to achieve a successful cultural exchange.
